Six hurt in Philippine bomb blasts

 Manila -

Two bombs exploded in a southern Philippine city as Muslims prepared to celebrate the end of Ramadaan, injuring six people, officials said on Friday. 

The first bomb hit a bus in Zamboanga City, 875 kilometres south of Manila, late on Thursday, injuring six of the 24 passengers, including a one-year-old boy, army Captain Albert Caber said. 

One hour later, another bomb exploded outside a mosque in a nearby village of Suterville, causing panic but no injuries, city police director Senior Superintendent Jaime Mejia said. 

“Based on the description provided by the bus passengers, the suspects are members of the Abu Sayyaf group,” Mejia said. 

The al-Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf has been blamed for some of the deadliest terrorist attacks in the Philippines, as well as high-profile kidnappings of foreigners for ransom.Author: Girlie Lin
